Yellowknife emergency services respond to missing boater on Long Lake

Yellowknife RCMP and the City of Yellowknife Fire Division responded to a call for a missing boater on Long Lake shortly before 6pm on June 29, 2017. RCMP officers and the City of Yellowknife Fire Division were immediately dispatched to begin the search.

Boats from the RCMP and the City of Yellowknife Fire Division were deployed as well as a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and a helicopter to support the search efforts. Assistance was also provided by the City of Yellowknife Municipal Enforcement Division and NWT Parks.

The individual was located by RCMP on the north side of Long Lake. The City of Yellowknife Fire Division transported the individual to Stanton Territorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead. This matter is now a Coroner's Act Investigation.

The Yellowknife RCMP will continue to assist the NWT Coroner with their investigation into this matter.

The Yellowknife RCMP wish to extend their appreciation to the support agencies that assisted with this search. To respect the privacy of the family, the name of the individual will not be released.
