UPDATE: RCMP lays charges in Skye Glen shooting

Inverness District RCMP is investigating a shooting that occurred on June 2, where police responded to a 911 call of a man being shot in the leg at a residence. The RCMP arrested two men in connection with the shooting, and have conducted a detailed investigation into the events that led to the incident. A woman was arrested as well, and was later released. Two homes were searched on June 4, resulting in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and drugs, including a quantity of marihuana and six kg of cocaine. Sophisticated drug packaging equipment was also seized.

Justin Francis Goswell, 27, of Judique, Inverness County, was arrested on June 2 and has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Licence
  • Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited by Order
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

James Edwin 'Tyler' Goswell, 33, of Stewartdale, Inverness County, was arrested on June 3 and has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Licence
  • Possession of a Loaded Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm obtained by the Commission of a Crime
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Makayla Sutherland, 21, of Harbourview, Inverness County, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Justin Goswell and Tyler Goswell have been held in custody since their arrests. They appeared in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on June 5 and were remanded. They are scheduled to return to court on June 13. Makayla Sutherland has been released, and will appear in court at a later date.

Inverness District RCMP anticipates further arrests and charges in relation to this incident. The investigation is ongoing.
