Sudden death in Fort Liard being investigated by outside agency

Fort Liard RCMP have requested assistance from an external agency regarding a sudden death in the community.

The evening of June 25th, 2017, the Fort Liard RCMP released a 34-year-old male from custody who had been arrested earlier that day for being intoxicated in public.

On June 26th, 2017, at 9:25 am, RCMP received a complaint that the male was not breathing at a residence. RCMP along with medical staff attended the residence and the male was pronounced dead.

In keeping with the RCMP's commitment to external examination of such cases, Camrose Police Service will conduct a review of the circumstances related to this death.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner of the Northwest Territories.

Family of the deceased has been notified of his passing.
