Speeders in residential areas targeted by police

News release

As part of its ongoing safe driving initiative, Codiac Regional RCMP members will be paying special attention to motorists who are speeding in residential areas in Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview.

The police often receive calls from residents about speeders in residential areas, and areas where children gather such as school zone areas, parks, and playgrounds. Motorists are reminded that if there is not a speed limit sign in a residential area, the speed limit is 50 km/h.

"Codiac Regional RCMP will be concentrating on areas where the problems are most prevalent," says Sgt. André Pépin of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "The fine for speeding starts at $172.50, but increases depending on how much over the speed limit the driver was travelling."

In recent months police have issued tickets for drivers exceeding the speed limit by as much as 30 km/hr along a residential street.
