RCMP responded to call of missing hunter near Jackson’s Arm

On October 6, 2017, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Deer Lake RCMP received a call of a missing hunter in the Cat Arm Reservoir area near Jackson's Arm, White Bay.

The hunter, a 60-year-old man from the U.S., became separated from his hunting guide in dense fog late Thursday evening. The guide, along with others from a local outfitting camp, searched for the man however were unsuccessful in locating him.

Deer Lake RCMP deployed members of the Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue Team, along with a helicopter chartered through Fire and Emergency Services NL, to search the area. Shortly after 11:00 a.m. the outfitting camp notified the RCMP that they located the man near the area he was last seen.

The RCMP would like to remind the public to travel in pairs, when possible, and to wear blaze orange when outdoors. If you become disoriented, try to stay in the same area and not wander. It is also recommended you carry some of communication device (i.e. satellite phone, cell phone or satellite messaging device) when possible.
