June 15, 2017
West Pubnico, Nova Scotia

News release

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 11, two members of Yarmouth Rural RCMP were on patrol in West Pubnico when they observed headlights crossing the highway in front of them. As they continued, the officers noticed an ATV and dirt bike stopped in a driveway.

The RCMP officers activated their emergency equipment and diverted their vehicle to investigate and witnessed the ATV and dirt bike collide with one another. Both riders were thrown from their vehicles. The police officers quickly provided assistance and EHS was called to provide medical assistance. The two male riders were transferred to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The following day, the RCMP received information that both of the drivers were still in hospital. As a result, the RCMP has now referred the incident to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) who has taken over the investigation. Given the matter is now being investigated by SiRT, the RCMP is unable to discuss further details about the incident.
