December 29, 2017
Hay River, Northwest Territories

News release

Hay River RCMP and Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a suspicious sudden death. Police are requesting the public's assistance for information in the area of Sandy Creek and a road locally known as "Wilderness Lodge Road" on the K'atlodeeche First Nation.

RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle found on side of the access road to the Sandy Creek area the morning of December 28, 2017. RCMP attended and located a deceased male. The identity of the victim is not being released.

The sudden death is believed to be suspicious at this time.

The investigation is in it's early stages, however, this road is believed to be popular with people looking to view the Northern Lights. They are seeking information from anyone who may have been in the area between the evening of December 26 and the morning of December 28.

"If you were in the area between Dec 26 evening and Dec 28 morning, please call the Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111. No detail, or observation, may be too small when we are in the beginning stages of this investigation, so we need to hear from anyone who was in the area" states Marie York-Condon, NT RCMP Media Relations.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact Hay River RCMP at 867-874-1111 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, www.nwtnutips.com, (click on "submit a web tip") or text: nwtnutips to 274637.
