RCMP in Colchester County charge two drivers for excessive speed

While doing targeted traffic enforcement this past Saturday, members of the RCMP's Northwest Traffic Services and Colchester District RCMP charged two drivers in a relatively short period of time for travelling at excessive speeds.

  • A 22-year-old male driver was travelling at 173 km/hr, in a 110 km/hr zone, 63 km/hr over the posted speed limit. He had one other passenger in the vehicle at the time. The driver, who is from Moncton, New Brunswick, is facing a charge of Stunting. In addition, his license was suspended for 7 days and his vehicle was seized. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50.
  • A 19-year-old male driver was stopped shortly afterwards for speeding by more than 31 km/hr over the posted speed limit. The driver, who is from Ford Bank, New Brunswick, is facing a charge of Speeding, which carries a fine of $410.00. His licence is suspended for seven days and he will receive four demerit points.

Nova Scotia RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
