This Thanksgiving weekend, the Nova Scotia RCMP, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Cape Breton Regional Police Service (CBRPS) will join police agencies across Canada as part of Operation Impact, an annual national road safety initiative designed to improve safe driving practices.
The goal of Operation Impact is to reduce injuries and save lives on our roadways through increased education and targeted enforcement in the areas of impaired driving by alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, not wearing a seatbelt and aggressive driving.
To facilitate Operation Impact initiatives, members of RCMP, HRP and CBRPS will be conducting numerous checkpoints and enforcement activities over the holiday weekend. Police tend to see an increase in traffic during long weekends and are asking motorists to plan ahead to ensure everyone safely arrives at their destination.
Operation Impact is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and member agencies of the CACP Traffic Committee from across Canada in support of Canada's Road Safety Strategy 2025, which has a goal of making Canada's roads the safest in the world.
