Nova Scotia RCMP officer killed in traffic collision

A member of the Nova Scotia RCMP has died following a collision near Memramcook, N.B.

On September 12, 2017, shortly after 6 p.m., New Brunswick RCMP received a call regarding a traffic collision in the east bound lane of Highway 2.

Preliminary investigation has determined the RCMP member stopped to assist two people in an SUV change a tire when a utility van collided with his police car and the SUV. The 35-year-old male RCMP officer died at the scene. The two people with the SUV were taken to hospital.

The driver of the van was also taken to hospital. He was treated and taken into police custody.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency crews attended the scene. The road reopened around 8:30 a.m. on September 13.

The investigation is continuing.
