August 19, 2017 marked the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid, code-named "Operation Jubilee". The Dieppe Raid was launched on August 19, 1942, and would prove to be the bloodiest single day for Canada's military in the entire Second World War. A total of 6000 men came ashore along a16 kilometre stretch of coastline at Dieppe. Approximately 5000 of those were Canadians with a total of 916 men losing their lives as a result of the raid.

Cst. April Janes-Gavel from the Newfoundland and Labrador Royal Canadian Mounted Police was selected to represent the RCMP for the commemorative ceremonies held in the Town of Dieppe, France. The Canadian delegation was made up of approximately 130 people including veterans, Indigenous veterans and representatives, parliamentarians and youth. The delegates attended commemorative events at the Pourville Memorial and at the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery.
