St. Catherine's, Prince Edward Island

News release

On Thursday August 3, 2017, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Queens District RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call of a single vehicle collision. The vehicle had left the road, hit a mailbox and came to rest in the ditch. Three occupants of the vehicle, two women ages 18 and 19 along with an infant were checked by Island EMS on scene for minor injuries.

The 19 year old driver was charged under the Provincial Highway Traffic Act when the investigation revealed that the driver was using a wireless hand held device while operating the motor vehicle. Speed and having a spare tire on the vehicle may have also played a part in this collision.

The RCMP would like to remind drivers of Prince Edward Island that using any hand held device for any reason is a dangerous and illegal practice. Taking your eyes off the road for even a second can have disastrous results. Please make responsible and safe decisions when driving on our roadways.
