Man charged in relation to a stabbing

A 33-year-old man from Canisto, N.B., has been charged in relation to a stabbing incident that occurred in Richibucto.

On December 8, 2017, at approximately 6:15 a.m., police were called to a residence on Main Street in Richibucto in relation to a stabbing incident. The victim, a 43-year-old man from Richibucto, was taken to hospital with significant injuries where he received several surgeries and remained hospitalised for several days.

On December 21, 2017, Jean-Paul Cormier, a 33-year old man from Canisto, N.B., was arrested in Aldouane. He appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with aggravated assault, wearing a mask in the commission of an offence and breach of probation. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on December 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing.

The investigation is continuing.
