Man arrested after locking himself inside residence

A 40-year-old man has been arrested after police responded to a report that a man had locked himself inside his residence on Adelaide Street in Dalhousie, N.B., and was refusing to come out. It was reported to police that the man may have been in psychological distress.

The Campbellton RCMP responded to the scene on May 18, 2017, at around 7:45 a.m. As a precaution, the surrounding neighbourhood was evacuated for a short period of time.

After about two hours, police were able to enter the residence and arrest the man without incident. The man will remain in custody pending a court appearance on May 23.

The investigation is continuing.
