A 56-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman have been charged after two semi-automatic rifles and prohibited overcapacity magazines were seized at the Woodstock border crossing in New Brunswick by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers.
On the evening of October 4, 2017, two people arrived at the Woodstock port of entry in New Brunswick. CBSA officers referred them for a secondary examination which resulted in the discovery of the firearms and prohibited overcapacity magazines. The driver and passenger were arrested and the RCMP was contacted. The two were taken into police custody.
David Allen Polchies and Sharon Ann Weeks, both of Teeds Mills, N.B., appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court on October 5. They were both charged with importing restricted firearms under the Criminal Code. The CBSA Enforcement and Intelligence also laid Customs Act charges for non-report, untrue statements and smuggling. Both were remanded into custody until a bail hearing on October 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Woodstock Court.
On October, 5, the RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in Teeds Mills, near Woodstock in relation to the seizure at the border. A number of firearms and ammunition were seized along with a large quantity of cash
The investigation is ongoing.
