On August 5th, 2017 at 5:30 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a call in St. Margarets, where it was reported two individuals were off shore in a rubber dinghy fighting the tides and currents.
The dinghy occupants did not have life jackets nor paddles with them on the floatation device. A Kings RCMP officer joined a fishing boat Captain and Mate at Naufrage Harbour Wharf and proceeded to rescue an adult male and female from the Souris area. Members of the Souris Fire Brigade were also dispatched with their boat, Island EMS attended as well.
An adult male and female from the Souris area were rescued but thankfully did not require any medical treatment.
P.E.I. RCMP remind the beach-going public to be aware of surf and current conditions and to not venture out in water on any devices without, life jackets, paddles and a whistle.
