Greater Moncton drivers slowing down in school zones

News release

School zone safety appears to be a priority with drivers in Greater Moncton.

Earlier this week, Codiac Regional RCMP concentrated their traffic enforcement initiatives in school zones in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview. Officers were keeping an eye on speeding in school zones, pedestrian safety in crosswalks including those with a school crossing guard, and general traffic safety.

Traffic was monitored at the beginning of the school day, and again when students left for the day on September 11.

"The majority of motorists reduced their speed in school zones and we found them attentive to students and traffic," says Staff Sergeant Éric Larose. "We issued just 10 tickets during the day, six for speeding in a school zone and four for other motor vehicle infractions."

Codiac Regional RCMP will continue to do spot checks on school zones and also at school bus stops during the school year.
