Five men arrested as part of a fraud investigation

On December 19, 2017, the Northeast District RCMP executed search warrants at seven locations in the Caraquet area as part of a joint investigation into a fraud scam.

The investigation into frauds in New Brunswick and Quebec, led by the Northeast District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, started in October 2017 and also involved Bathurst Police Force, BNPP Regional Police Force and Sureté du Quebec.

Police executed warrants in Bertrand, Notre-Dame-des-Érables, Rocheville, Paquetville, Petit-Paquetville and Rang-Saint-Georges.

A large number of food products, appliances, building supplies, construction materials and tools were seized during the searches.

As a result of the searches, police arrested five men. A 30-year-old man from Bertrand and a 38-year-old man from Petit-Paquetville will appear in Tracadie Provincial Court at 9:30 on December 20 to face fraud related charges. Three other men, aged 42, 46 and 50, were released on conditions and scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
