Drugs seized, arrests made during weekend checkpoint in Port Hawkesbury

At approximately 4 p.m. on October 20, Inverness County District RCMP conducted a checkpoint in Port Hawkesbury that resulted in drugs seized and multiple arrests.

During the checkpoint, RCMP officers searched a vehicle and discovered hydromorphone, marihuana, cash, pepper spray, alcohol and drug paraphernalia. The drugs and other items were seized. A 42-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both of the Sydney area, were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Drug or Substance and Possession of Illegal Alcohol.

Brian Matheson was charged for possessing hydromorphone and marihuana for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for court over the weekend and will appear today in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court. The 24-year-old woman was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court on December 18, 2017.
