Death at continuing care facility ruled a homicide

On October 26, 2016, Lower Sackville RCMP responded to a call of an assault at a Beaver Bank Continuing Care facility. A 79-year-old man had been pushed by a female resident, and the man was found by staff, laying on the floor with an injury to his head. The man died on October 29, 2016, and an autopsy was done by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner's Service.

The matter was investigated by the Integrated Special Investigations Section, Homicide Unit. The death was ruled a homicide. In consultation with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service, police have determined that no charges will be laid in relation to the death, based on the cognitive impairment of the suspect.
