Cumberland District RCMP investigating single-vehicle ATV collision

Cumberland District RCMP is investigating a single-vehicle ATV collision.

Prior to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Cumberland District RCMP responded to a single-vehicle collision involving an ATV on McGee St. in Springhill.

The passenger, a 19-year-old man from Amherst, sustained serious injuries and was transported by EHS to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Springhill, fled from the scene and was later apprehended by RCMP. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Initial investigation indicates the ATV was travelling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control on a turn and struck a pole. Charges are pending against the driver under the Off Highway Vehicle Act, Motor Vehicle Act and Criminal Code.

An RCMP Collision Analyst was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
