The annual Cavendish Beach Music Festival is about to kick off and RCMP are anticipating another successful event as Islanders and visitors enjoy some of their favourite bands. Each year the festival brings large crowds to Cavendish and surrounding communities which requires travel restrictions to manage traffic flow and ensure safety.

Between (approximately) 10:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Thursday to Sunday, Highway #6 between Cavendish Corner and the Cavendish Beach Boardwalk is closed to all inbound traffic. This is to allow the mass flow of vehicles and pedestrians exiting the CBMF site in East and West directions towards Stanley Bridge and North Rustico/New Glasgow.

Thousands of fans will be driving and walking from parking lots and campgrounds in the area requiring everyone to understand and obey the restrictions in traffic. If instructions are followed and everyone shows a bit of patience, getting to your destination will be a lot easier.

There will be traffic congestion. RCMP ask that patrons and drivers in the community exercise patience and follow all signage and direction from RCMP officers and Provincial Government TIE road crews stationed on the roadways in the area. If you are dropping off and picking up, make sure you are familiar with the traffic map (also posted on CBMF website www.cavendishbeachmusic.com) to determine the best possible spot based on traffic flow.

It's a festive atmosphere and a great summer celebration. Please do not drive while impaired and pay attention while on the roads. Traffic infractions of impaired or distracted driving and speeding will result in tickets this weekend in order to manage safety, especially when dealing with crowd sizes of this nature.

RCMP expect everyone will be law abiding and orderly and will be visible in the community as a reminder of those expectations and to ensure that concert-goers are safe and enjoy the best experience possible.
