Just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, Halifax District RCMP responded to a complaint of a break and enter at a business on Highway 7 in Musquoboboit Harbour.
between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday, the business was broken in to and a large quantity of power tools were stolen. Video surveillance at the business enabled police to identify the suspect vehicle. Just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP observed the suspect vehicle on Highway 7 in Musquodoboit Harbour. When members attempted to conduct a traffic stop the driver drove off at a high rate of speed refusing to stop for police. The driver then proceeded to drive across a field and stop near a wooded area. At this time, he fled from the vehicle in to nearby woods. The quick response of Halifax District RCMP members and Halifax Regional Police K-9 resulted in the arrest of the man a short distance from this location.
A 51-year-old man from Tangier is facing the following charges:
- Break and Enter
- Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Flight from Police
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Drive While Disqualified
The man is in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today.
The investigation is continuing and other charges are expected to be laid.
