Arrests made in relation to stolen church bells

The West District RCMP, Woodstock Detachment, has arrested two men in connection with the theft of church bells from Carleton County in July 2017.

Sometime between July 16 and July 24, 2017, someone removed the bell from the top of St. Paul's Anglican Church on Highway 540 in Kirkland, about 30 kilometres southwest of Woodstock. The theft was reported to the RCMP on July 24. The bell is still missing.

Meanwhile, the Kirk Church in Northampton, about 18 kilometres south of Woodstock, reported its church bell was also stolen sometime between July 23 and 25. Its bell was recovered from a scrapyard in Fredericton on July 25.

Two Woodstock men, one 51 years old, the other 52 years old, were arrested. Both were released pending a future court appearance.
