News release

With a new type of fraud seeming to come along every day, Canadians need to educate themselves about the various types of fraud and how they can avoid becoming a victim, which is the key to fraud prevention. Based on reports of fraud received through the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, seniors are especially vulnerable to scams; that being said, no one demographic is immune to fraud, regardless of their age, education or background.

If you are contacted and suspect a fraud/scam and wish to report suspected telemarketing fraud or other fraudulent scams, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or report online at www.antifraudcentre.ca If you are a victim of a scam and have been defrauded, that is the time to contact police.

Fraud is a growing, pervasive problem and the RCMP on Prince Edward Island receive numerous calls every day about new scam techniques.
