Moncton, New Brunswick

News release

The Codiac Regional RCMP is continuing its investigation into a complaint involving the non-consensual distribution of intimate images. The images, along with inappropriate messaging, were sent on multiple occasions through the Université de Moncton email system.

Investigators have taken a statement from the victim and have identified a possible suspect in this case. The RCMP ensured the victim has access to victim services and resources.

"What's important to remember is that these types of incidents have serious consequences and severe impacts on a person's wellbeing. It's an extraordinarily difficult situation for victims, as well as their families and friends, "states Inspector Luc Breton of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We recognize that these types of incidents cause harm and are deeply troubling. It takes a toll on the whole community."

The RCMP is reminding those who receive inappropriate images or messages via email, text or social media that they should not share the content further, as this perpetuates the non-consensual distribution of the content. Continuing to distribute such content may lead to criminal charges.

"The RCMP understands the community has questions and we are working to determine all the facts of this case," says Inspector Luc Breton. "Investigations such as this one are particularly complex. We are working diligently to ensure all investigative avenues are properly addressed."

The investigation continues.
