Two-vehicle collision, Route 2, Springfield

March 3, 2017
Springfield, Prince Edward Island

News release

On March 2nd 2017 at approximately 9:45 p.m., the East Prince RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Route 2 in the community of Springfield. The Kensington Police and Fire Department along with Island Emergency Medical Services, the Department of Highways and the Prince District RCMP all responded to the scene. It was determined that a west bound vehicle lost control on the snow covered roadway and drove into an oncoming tractor trailer. The driver of the car was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons while the driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

While emergency crews were on scene dealing with this incident, two more minor collisions occurred around the scene which police believe were the result of drivers failing to yield properly and not driving according to the slippery road conditions. These matters are still under investigation.

The police want to remind motorists that the winter is still upon us and road conditions can deteriorate quickly. They are also reminded to reduce speed and drive cautiously when approaching emergency crews on our highways.
