Prince Edward Island Anti-Bullying Contest for Island Students in Grades 7 to 12

February 3, 2017
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

News release

P.E.I. Crime Stoppers are pleased to announce they will again be partnering with the English and French Language Schools Boards along with contest sponsors ADL and the Charlottetown Islanders Hockey Club in presenting a contest aimed at raising awareness of the negative effects of bullying on lives of students.

The contest will be open to all Grade 7 to 12 students on Prince Edward Island. Students are asked to produce an original drawing that will be used on the "2018 Anti-bullying Pink Shirt". The winning entry will be announced and shown at the Islanders home game versus Rimouski Océanic on March 2nd. This game will also feature a "Pink Shirt Day" theme. All entries will be receiving 2 free tickets to this game. In support of this initiative players from the Islanders will again be travelling with Crime Stoppers with an anti-bullying message for students during the months of February and March.

Crime Stoppers Coordinator Phil Pitts said, "This will be the fourth year for this contest and school visits. We feel that by working with the students we can raise awareness of bullying, what constitutes bullying and that this behavior is not acceptable. It is hoped that together we are creating a safer and better learning environment for the students and at the same time preventing those doing the bulling from going on to engage in more destructive antisocial behaviors as they get older. We are confident that by continuing this work students will more comfortable and confident in standing up for themselves, supporting others and knowing that there is help and support for them if they are victims of bullying. They certainly do not stand alone and the involvement of the school boards, ADL and the Charlottetown Islanders management and players is indicative of this support."
