On January 19th, 2017, officers from the forces of RCMP, Charlottetown, Summerside, and Kensington Police Services participated in an "active threat" exercise.

The event took place in Slemon Park, just outside of Summerside and allowed officers the opportunity to respond to a similated criminal activity that required armed response. The ability to include all Island forces provided an integrated police response and the activity itself gave officers the chance to experience the complexities of a call of this nature.

RCMP staff coordinated the exercise, the first of this nature on Prince Edward Island, in order that all agencies have a first-hand experience into how to respond in the event of this type of emergency. Each of the police agencies noted that the scenario was very well executed and that the learning experience was exceptional. More of these types of training activities are expected to be conducted in coming months.
