South Freetown Man sentenced for Impaired Driving

Richard Michael MacKinnon, a 44 year-old man from the South Freetown area received 90 days in jail following a guilty plea to a charge of impaired driving of a motor vehicle with an alcohol reading of almost double the legal limit to drive. The accused entered the guilty plea in Provincial Court in Summerside on the 22nd of February 2017.

Mr. MacKinnon was charged following a report by a member of the public of a single vehicle crash in the Freetown area in November 2016. Judge Jeffery Lantz allowed Mr. MacKinnon to serve his sentence on an intermittent basis and also prohibited him from driving a motor vehicle for a period of three years.

RCMP thank the members of the public for their assistance and advise all people that should they observe an impaired driver to call 911.
