Victoria District RCMP is pleased to announce Staff Sergeant Darren Waidson as the new RCMP District Commander for Victoria County (Baddeck, Ingonish Beach and Wagmatcook First Nation's policing jurisdictions).

S/Sgt. Waidson joined the RCMP in 1990 from Cape Breton and he has worked in many roles during his 27-year career in the RCMP. Darren was first posted to The Pas, Manitoba, and after five years he moved to Nova Scotia and worked in Port Hawkesbury and Halifax. He was then posted to the RCMP's Depot Division in Saskatchewan.

As District Commander, S/Sgt. Waidson is committed to working with the communities in Victoria District to identify and implement local policing priorities. He plans to work closely with the many service providers in Victoria County, as well as the Chief and Council, Elders and youth, and focus on building and maintaining partnerships, in the pursuit of building trust and creating a safe community.

"I am very excited to return to this part of the country," says S/Sgt. Waidson. "It's truly a gift to come back to this beautiful area, and I'm eager to meet our community members, business owners, local government officials as well as our Chief & Band Council of Wagmatcook First Nation. I am confident that together we can promote the safety and protection of the people who live in our community and the tourists who visit year round." S/Sgt. Waidson adds, "I look forward to meeting the members of our community, and I encourage people to stop into the Baddeck detachment to say hello."
