UPDATE - Barricaded McIvers man apprehended without incident.

A 32-year-old man was taken into custody and transported to hospital following a barricaded incident in McIvers, N.L.

On February 21, 2017 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Corner Brook RCMP officers were called to the area following a report of a man having been assaulted and threatened. Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that the suspect had barricaded himself inside his home.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were called in to assist with the situation.

Officers continued negotiations throughout last night and into today. At approximately 6:00 p.m. the man was taken into custody by police without incident.

The man will be brought before Corner Brook Provincial Court and will face a number of charges including assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

The RCMP were assisted by Western Health, the McIvers Volunteer Fire Department and local Ground Search and Rescue Teams.

Police would like to thank the community for their patience, co-operation and support during this time.
