RCMP arrests man after standoff

Paramedics and Fire personnel were called to assist with a medical call at a residence on Bayberry Dr. yesterday afternoon just after 2:30 p.m. The man made threats to burn the house down and told responders that he had a gun, and he later threatened police. The emergency responders left the residence and called the RCMP.

RCMP officers from East Hants, Millbrook, and Indian Brook Detachments responded. The scene was contained and residents of nearby homes were asked to evacuate or stay in their basements until the situation was resolved. The RCMP Emergency Response Team, assisted by a Crisis Negotiator and RCMP Police Dog Services and an HRP K9 Unit, were called to assist.

Contact was established with the man, a 63-year-old from Milford, and he was arrested without incident at approximately 12:40 a.m. today. The home was searched following the arrest and a .22 calibre rifle was seized. The man was held in custody and is facing a number of criminal charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
