News release

Two women are dead following two separate head-on collisions in Southeast New Brunswick.

On August 5, 2017, around 3 p.m., the Shediac detachment of the Southeast RCMP were called to the scene collision on Shediac River Road, north of Shediac. Police believe a car driven by an 18-year-old from Grande-Digue crossed the centre line while navigating a turn and collided with an SUV driving in the opposite direction. The driver of the car was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. A man and a woman in the SUV were taken to hospital.

Shortly before 10 p.m. that same day, the Shediac detachment responded to another head-on collision on Route 15 in Shemogue, about 30 kilometres east of Shediac. Police believe a car travelling eastbound crossed the centre line and collided with a car driving in the opposite direction. The driver of the eastbound car was taken to hospital in critical condition. She was the only occupant of the car. The 44-year-old woman from Melrose driving the westbound car died at the scene. A second woman and a young boy in the westbound car were also taken to hospital.

The investigations into both collisions are continuing.
