Arrest at Whitehorse restaurant

On March 15th shortly after 7:00 p.m., Whitehorse RCMP responded to a request for assistance by Yukon Emergency Medical Services involving a man at a downtown restaurant.

After being advised that medical assistance was not required, the man was placed under arrest by police.

A physical altercation between police and the individual ensued inside the restaurant during the arrest. Additional officers responded to the location and the man was taken into custody.

There are no reports of injuries to the individual who was arrested or to the responding police officers.

The 31-year-old Whitehorse resident appeared in Territorial Court on Thursday March 16th facing the following charges:

  • Uttering threats;
  • Failing to comply with a probation order x3;
  • Theft under $5000 x2;
  • Mischief;
  • Assaulting a police officer.

The 31-year-old man was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on April 5th, 2017.

"A brief video of the incident was captured by a witness and that video has been provided to police," said Inspector Archie Thompson, Officer in charge of Whitehorse Detachment. "I am asking any witnesses or bystanders and anyone who may have additional video who have not already spoken to police, to contact Whitehorse RCMP."
