News release

A 24-year-old Dieppe woman was arrested after crashing her car into a police cruiser while driving impaired.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on January 11, 2017, the Shediac RCMP received a complaint about a possible impaired driver in Shediac. A police officer proceeded to respond, heading into Shediac via Ohio Rd. As he approached Main Street, a car that was attempting to merge off Main St. onto Ohio Rd. using the exit ramp failed to keep right, missed the ramp and continued in a straight line, colliding with the police cruiser.

Fortunately, both drivers sustained only minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics. Both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was arrested for impaired driving and taken into custody. Breath samples showed her to have a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit. The vehicle she was driving was the same one that had been reported to police.

The woman was later released and is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on April 27, 2017, to face related charges.
