Man pleads guilty to possessing images of child sexual abuse

On January 10, 2017, a 30-year-old man from Saint-Édouard-de-Kent, N.B., appeared in Moncton provincial court and pleaded guilty to possessing images of child sexual abuse. He also pleaded guilty to breaching a condition to report his address to the National Sex Offender Registry.

He was sentenced to six months in jail on the charge of possessing images of child sexual abuse and six months for breaching the condition to report to National Sex Offender Registry. The time is to be served concurrently.

Marcel Savoie was charged in October 2016, after the RCMP in New Brunswick's Internet Child Exploitation Unit conducted a search warrant at the man's residence in Saint-Edouard-de-Kent on October 13.

Savoie will be on probation for two years following his release. The conditions of his probation include no direct contact with anyone under the age of 16, no access to a computer or electronic devices, no access to the Internet, and a provision allowing his residence and car to be searched without a warrant during his probation. He will be registered for life on the National Sex Offender Registry.
