Community of Gesgapegiag: drug trafficking case leads to search and arrests

Yesterday, the Gesgapegiag Police conducted an operation in which they searched a location in this Aboriginal community and seized a small quantity of marihuana. Three residents of the Micmac community aged between 25 and 49 were arrested.

One of the three suspects will appear in court shortly and could be charged with possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking. The other two suspects were questioned and released.

The investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Aboriginal Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine Detachment, regional Sûreté du Québec and Listuguj Micmac Community Police.

Partnership and awareness

The participating police services teamed up to provide assistance to this community that faces major problems related to drug trafficking.

Awareness-raising initiatives will also be implemented in relation to the substance abuse problems that affects this community.
