REGINA, Nov. 19, 2009 — Habitat for Humanity Regina and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) “Depot” Division are joining forces to build the first “Mountie House” in Saskatchewan. This community-based project marks the official start of the celebrations leading to the Division’s 125th anniversary on November 1st, 2010.
“What better way to celebrate this historic milestone then by entering into an extraordinary partnership with a respected, well-known organization that has, not unlike Depot, shaped our communities,” stated Assistant commissioner Roger L. Brown, Commanding Officer of “Depot” Division. “Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves to have a simple, decent and affordable place to live. We agree. By leveraging our combined resources, we can and will effect a positive and lasting change in our community,” added Brown.
The first RCMP-sponsored Mountie House was built in Ottawa in 2005—a symbol of what can be accomplished through partnership, cooperation and shared responsibility.
“The RCMP’s objective is ‘Safe Homes, Safe Communities’. This is an ideal way for our cadets and our employees to demonstrate their commitment to building strong community relationships,” said Brown, adding, “as the sole basic training facility, Depot is home to all members of the RCMP and I encourage past, present and future members to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a Mountie House in their community.”
Please visit the website at www.mountiehouse.ca throughout the build to follow the progress as volunteers build homes and hope for deserving families in our community.
Depot. Home of the Mounties. Building Homes. Building Hope.
