On September 14, 2009, “Depot” Division opened a new food services building—the Division Mess—to replace its 52-year-old predecessor.
With a mandate to provide nutritious, well-balanced meals to cadets, employees and visitors to “Depot”, the Division Mess features the following:
- Usable space of approximately 3,050 sq. m, which allows for a more efficient preparation and service of meals and includes:
- the capacity to seat over 400 people at a time and serve at least 3,500 meals daily;
- heat recovery units with a high-efficiency ventilation system; and
- a kitchen exhaust system with ultra-violet filtration.
- An environment that contributes to the health and safety of cadets and employees such as:
- a state-of-the-art food preparation and serving facility;
- natural light in the dining and cooking areas;
- a staff lounge and change rooms; and
- automatic adjustable lighting in the dining area.
- Amenities and décor compatible with the training and learning culture of the Academy including:
- a map of the March West inlaid on the floor;
- a signature display of 32 lances suspended from the ceiling, representing of ‘The Dome’ as performed by the Musical Ride; and
- three meeting rooms.
The building was designed by Stantec Architecture Limited of Regina. The construction was managed by Dominion Construction Company Inc.
