Influenza A(H1N1) at the RCMP Academy: Update

REGINA, June 19, 2009, 12:00 – Assistant Commissioner Roger L. Brown, Commanding Officer of “Depot” Division has provided the following update on the status of influenza A(H1N1) at the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division.

“At this time, only one cadet remains in isolation after showing flu-like symptoms. All cadets previously isolated have been discharged.”

Depot will remain closed to visitors this weekend but A/Commr. Brown has stated, “given the current situation, all indications are that as of Monday, all restrictions will be lifted.”

“We would like to thank all members of the Regina community for their understanding and cooperation during this time,” he added.

Monday’s graduation of Troop 43 is scheduled to continue as usual. Troop 13, who had started training off base, is now at the Academy.

After confirming three cases of influenza A(H1N1) last Thursday, the RCMP North West Region (NWR) Health Services has worked closely with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health District to limit the spread of the virus between Depot and the surrounding communities.

Despite the positive outlook, NWR Health Services Officer Dr. Warren Dufour urges caution, “We continue to monitor the situation closely as the virus is still in the community and we are still taking all necessary precautions to reduce the risk to ourselves and others.”
