Update

A proposal to extend the existing amnesty until May 16, 2009, has been published in the Canada Gazette. The amnesty applies to certain owners of non-restricted rifles and shotguns who had a firearms licence that expired after January 1, 2004 and which has not yet been renewed, and to those who hold a valid licence but who possess unregistered non-restricted firearms. The amnesty extension would allow these individuals more time to comply with the licensing and registration requirements.
