Firearms licences do not show the licencee’s address. This security feature prevents those who find a lost licence from subsequently discovering where firearms might be located.
It is essential that firearms owners notify the RCMP’s Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) when their address changes. This will ensure that they receive renewal notices and other important information from the CFP. Also, it’s the law.
Those who possess non-restricted firearms have 30 days, according to the Firearms Act, to provide notification of a change of address. This can be done in one of three ways:
Central Processing Site
PO Box 1200
Miramichi NB E1N 5Z3
The CFP toll-free information line can also be contacted to confirm that addresses are current.
Owners of restricted and prohibited firearms must contact their regional Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) to obtain an Authorization to Transport in order to legally move their firearms to the new address.
Addresses must be updated so that renewals and other important notices are received on time!
This fact sheet is intended to provide general information only. For legal purposes, please refer to the Firearms Act and its Regulations. Provincial, territorial and municipal laws, regulations and policies may also apply.
