Fees for Firearm Documents

Individuals

Canadian Residents

  • Renewal of a Possession Only Licence (POL) for firearms - $60
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for firearms (If a PAL is issued for more than one class of firearm, the fee payable is the greatest of the appropriate fees.)
    • non-restricted firearms - $60
    • restricted firearms - $80
    • prohibited firearms - $80
  • Possession licence for firearms for individuals who are less than 18 years old
    • for a period of up to one year - $10
    • for a period of more than one year but not more than two years - $20
    • for a period of more than two years - $30

Non-residents

  • Non-resident’s 60-day possession licence (borrowed firearms) - $30
  • Confirmed Non-Resident Firearm Declaration - $25

No fee required

  • Authorization to Transport
  • Register or transfer a firearm

Lost or damaged documents

  • Firearms Licence - POL or PAL - $25
  • Firearms Licence – Minor - $10
  • Temporary Borrowing Licence - $25
  • 60-day or 1 year non-resident confirmed declaration - $25

NOTE: If you are requesting replacement of your firearms licence with non-restricted privileges and the Chief Firearms Officer of your province or territory determined that a fee waiver applied because you need the firearms to hunt or trap in order to sustain yourself or your family, then the fee is waived for replacing your licence. The fee waiver does not apply to replacement of a firearms licence with restricted or prohibited privileges.

Access to Information and Privacy

The Privacy Act gives you the right to see and correct personal information the Government of Canada holds about you. There is no charge to apply for this information under the Privacy Act.

The Access to Information Act gives both individuals and corporations present in Canada the right to seek access to federally controlled information and records. There is a processing fee of $5 which is needed before work is started on an Access request. Where applicable, a fee for reproduction of the record or part thereof may apply.

  • If there are two or more activities that are carried on by a business in the same place, the fee payable by the business for the issuance or renewal of a licence to carry on those activities is the greatest of the appropriate fees for those activities.
  • Licence fee for possession purposes other than the activities set out above - $125.
  • For all other activities, the licence fee is $50.

Authorization and Confirmation

  • Authorization to carry a firearm to protect life - $100
  • Authorization to carry a firearm for a lawful profession or occupation
    • period of one year or less - $40;
    • period of more than one year - $80.

Chief Firearms Officers are responsible for issuing authorizations to carry. The specific conditions for authorizations are set out in the Firearms Act (Authorizations to Carry Restricted Firearms and Certain Handguns Regulations).
