Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission is pursuant to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. The Commission will be holding a public process with the purpose of acknowledging harms done and healing the relationship between people within Canada.

The legacy of Residential Schools has affected the lives and well being of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and communities for generations. The Settlement Agreement, which was endorsed by former students, churches and the Government of Canada signals a shared commitment to create a more harmonious, mutually respectful future.

The RCMP are part of that shared commitment. We are an integral part of this history. Many of our members and employees are part of this legacy.

We will work alongside with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including our aboriginal partners, communities and people to continue the healing process and to build stronger and healthier communities.

We have a long history, both as aboriginal people and our service in the RCMP.

We understand the legacy.

Together, we will walk in the journey toward healing and reconciliation.
