Rigolet man charged with numerous criminal offences following disturbance at cabin

Rigolet RCMP has laid criminal charges against 31-year-old Stephen Hope following a disturbance that occurred at a cabin area outside of the community of Rigolet on April 27, 2024.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to a disturbance involving a firearm at a cabin area nearly 15 kilometers outside of Rigolet. Rigolet RCMP immediately responded. Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect, Stephen Hope, had departed the area in a vehicle prior to police arrival. An occupant of a cabin, who had been assaulted by Hope but was uninjured, was taken to a safe location. Officers continued to search for Hope.

Shortly before 5:00 a.m., Stephen Hope was located in a parked vehicle near the community dump in Rigolet. He was arrested without further incident and showed signs of alcohol impairment. The investigation determined he had fired a shot into the air during the disturbance.

Stephen Hope is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Assault
  • Impaired operation
  • Mischief - damage to property

He was placed on multiple conditions, including a requirement to surrender all of his firearms, which were turned over to police. Hope is set to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing with further charges possible.
