RCMP NL is proud to recognize and congratulate employee Stephanie Dawe, who serves as a Detachment Services Assistant with Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP. At an awards ceremony in Ottawa on April 9, 2024, Stephanie was one of seven members of the Union of Safety and Justice Employees (USJE) honoured with a National Public Safety Award for outstanding work as federal public safety personnel.

With 13 years of experience in the justice system between her previous employment at the provincial court house and her current employment with the RCMP, Stephanie is a valuable asset to public safety.

She volunteers as the President of the Local Ground Search and Rescue Team (GSAR), being on call and at the ready 24/7 and has been involved in many challenging search and rescue missions over the years. In her leadership role, Stephanie holds the team to high training standards and ensures they have the necessary equipment to do the job. She arranges fundraising efforts, such as making Smile Cookies at Tim Horton's and securing grants from various organizations, for the purchase of new GSAR equipment. This past September, Stephanie was the first candidate in Labrador to be awarded the SARVAC GSAR National Searcher Certification.

She is a strong mental health advocate for the search and rescue team, recognizing that recovering from a difficult mission is not always easy and can have lasting effects. Stephanie also volunteers countless hours as a member of the Crime Prevention Committee and as a Red Cross representative.

In summary, Stephanie's dedication to the public safety of Labradorians is truly outstanding and knows no bounds. She is the epitome of hard work, enthusiasm and courage and is a very deserving recipient of the USJE National Public Safety Award.

Congratulations, Stephanie! The RCMP is proud to have you on our team.
